Antique Trucks

"Antique Trucks and Tractors"

In West Marin county, road signs and addresses are not always clearly visible which makes these old vehicles an important landmark on Marshall- Petaluma Road.

Mt. Burdell

"Storm Clouds over the Foothills of Mt. Burdell"

These hills which are a part of Marin Open Space Preserve were once a busy rock quarry which provided materials to pave the streets of San Francisco. The rocks were rolled down to the nearby Petaluma River by a rail system and transferred to barges to be shipped to the city through San Pablo Bay.

Palace of Fine Arts
"The Palace of Fine Arts, San Francisco, CA"

This image was captured on film a few years before the advent of digital photography. The swan flew in just a few seconds before the shutter was released and just as quickly flew away so there were no chances for another shot.

Reservoir

"Soulajule Reservoir"

Even those who were born and raised near this area are not aware of the reservoir because it is some ways off the main path-Marshal-Petaluma Road. It is also past a security gate and several NO TRESPASSING signs in addition to requiring driving more than a mile on a dirt road full of potholes to arrive at the location.  Cell phones are useless  there and no one is in sight to help with directions. A client of mine lives even farther in the hills in an 100+ year old house which is a single dwelling on more than 500 acres.

"Stafford Lake"

The lake is a favorite recreation area for hikes and picnics just a few minutes near West Novato. It supplies Novato with some of the water; the other source of water locally is from the Russian River up  North. A well traveled friend of mine reports that the lake and the surroundings remind him of Highlands in Scotland.

Tiburon

"Tiburon Peninsula"

The photo shows the Corinthian Yacht Club and marks in the water indicate that Tiburon-Angel Island Ferry has just left. The picture is taken from the small parking lot next to the rail road station which is the only remnant left of the dismantled train yard complex.

Tomales Bay

"Sail Boats on Tomales Bay"

San Andreas Fault runs under Tomales Bay in a straight line all the way to Bodega Bay. Tomales Bay was formed as the North American and the Pacific plates were grinding against one another. It's mind boggling to look across the bay and to consider that according to geologists this land mass was 300 miles south (Santa Barbara area) 80 to 100 million years ago and that it continues to drift northwest an average of two inches per year.

Yellow flowers

"Yellow Flowers- Just off Pt. Reyes-Petaluma Road"

Some have referred to the yellow plants as mustard. Others believe they are just wildflowers. They make an expressive image typical of some of the local Marin landscape during the early Spring.

California Poppies

"California Poppies"

In our county MALT stands for Marin Agricultural Land Trust which is a private non-profit organization founded in 1980 by a coalition of ranchers and environmentalists to save land in perpetuity.
Cow Pasture

"Cow Pastures of Mt. Burdell"

Marin County and the local ranchers have an agreement to turn loose a few herds of cattle on this public land in the Spring time just to help keep down the grasses .... and the fire hazard.
